A volunteer work party undertakes small scale projects in agreement with Croydon Council, like the restoration of an old pond, the reduction of non-native plants, tree planting and control of bramble in tree planted areas.Â
In recent months we have been clearing holly, including pulling up small saplings. We are always on the lookout for regrowth of cherry laurel which we have been trying to eradicate from King's Wood.
We respond to notifications of fallen trees and attempt to clear them if they are small and easy to deal with, otherwise they are reported to be cleared.
We use hand tools (no chain saws) and do not cut large timber, but can fell small saplings where necessary. We do not light fires due to the short working period.
We maintain the four noticeboards in the Wood.
Members of the work party meet on a Tuesday morning from 10.00 a.m. - 12.00 p.m. unless the weather is inclement (icy conditions, heavy rain or strong wind).
We are always looking for new members to join us and help with our work. Please contact us at friendsofkingswood@hotmail.co.uk if you would like to know more.
Clearing holly from one of the plots - a constant task!
Can you find our wooden mushroom, seen from one of the paths in King's Wood!
